SoMa San Francisco Real Estate

SoMa is yet another booming residential and commercial area. Always known as San Francisco’s South of Market area, the SoMa moniker took hold in the early 1990’s after several commercial and industrial buildings were converted to live/work lofts. Developers scrambled to the area during the housing boom of the 1990’s, and hundreds of conversions and loft-style condominiums sprang up in this extremely interesting enclave. The South of Market area is still home to many of the city’s bars and night clubs, as well as businesses, auto body shops and other commercial ventures.

But many loft-style condominium buildings are now interwoven into the landscape. Some of the more interesting developments include the Tehama Lofts, the newly developed SoMa Grand, and The Mint Lofts.  The Westfield Centre, with the largest Bloomingdale's outside of NYC and the very tall Intercontinental Hotel are some of the area's new interests.  The Federal Building on 7th Street, completed in 2007 draws wonder and mixed architectural views (I like it!).  The grand, classical Grecian, old United States Mint on 5th Street, now owned by the city, awaits a transformation into a museum and visitor's centerSoMa is bordered by Market St., 4th St., Division St., and King St.
